My First 90 Days
"Perhaps strength doesn't reside in having never been broken but in the courage required to grow strong in the broken places." - Kristen Jongen
January 2022 brought all of us so much hope. A new year filled with possibilities and healing as we saw a glimmer of light to the end of the pandemic and excitement for the future ahead. For me, the new year also brought the opportunity to begin at Domestic Violence Project, Inc. as chief executive officer. I have learned so much in my first 90 days, but three things stand out: acceptance, community, and resiliency.
Acceptance: Each of us are on our own journey in this life. At DVPI, we accept everyone exactly where they are on that journey. Our dedicated staff wrap around the survivors we serve to meet the needs they choose. Hope and healing can be found in some of the hardest places. But the true journey begins at acceptance.
Community: We are thankful for the outpouring of community support for our mission. In just 90 days, I have already witnessed two box trucks and more SUVs and cars then I can count on my hands and feet who have backed into our parking lot and delivered donations for our survivors. Our community partners, volunteers, and donors play an integral role as we provide safe emergency housing and supportive services to those who are experiencing domestic violence in our community. Thank you for standing with us in these efforts.
Resiliency: If you had to walk away from everything in your life right now, what would you feel, think, do? Survivors are courageous! It is not easy to leave. Oftentimes it is dangerous. And starting over can be overwhelming. I feel blessed to work alongside our staff and survivors every day. They show grit to stand up and rebuild.
As we move into the months ahead, I look forward to working with many more of our supporters that I have not yet had the privilege to meet. We are looking forward to expanding our services and linking arms with our community to continue our mission. Together, we can end the cycle of violence.
